Areas we serve

Our crews work in cities across 13 states and Washington, DC. The ground is different everywhere, so every page below explains what's going on with the soil, the climate and the homes in that area.

Tap a highlighted state to see its cities. Foundation trouble isn't the same in Texas clay as it is in a Boston fieldstone basement, and a repair that's right for one could be wrong for the other. That's why each state page starts with the ground, then the kinds of homes, then the cities we work in.

What changes from one region to the next

Texas and the southern plains are clay country. Soil swells when it's wet and shrinks when it's dry, so most trouble follows the weather, and slabs and older raised homes each fail in their own way.

The Southeast has red Piedmont clay inland and low, sandy ground near the coast. Crawl spaces are everywhere, and long humid summers can soak them with no leak at all. Limestone in parts of Tennessee, Kentucky and north Florida adds sinkholes to the list.

Boston, Kansas City and other cold-winter cities tend to have basements. Frost and wet soil push on walls, and some older homes stand on stone or brick that needs different care than poured concrete.

The Pacific Northwest and the Wasatch Front bring slopes, glacial soils and earthquake risk into the conversation. A crack here can be a house problem or a hillside problem, and it's worth finding out which.

Coastal areas such as Charleston, Pensacola and Newport News deal with high water and flood rules. Those rules can limit what you're allowed to do to a crawl space, so look up your flood zone before you plan the work.
